01The problem
The institute needed a resilient, low-cost campus supply that could ride through grid instability while serving heavy workshop loads.
02Engineering decision
Designed and drafted the complete electrical package: SLD/MLD AC-DC topology with string-to-inverter assignments, busbar arrangements and SmartLogger monitoring; dimensioned AC Combiner and ESS Control board enclosures; mini-rail and full-rail roof mounting with clamp and structural details; and a TS10 ESE lightning arrestor pole with earthing and foundation specs.
03Verifiable outcome
  • 339.76 kWp DC / 300 kWac with a 430 kWh (600 kW) battery bank
  • 548 × Jinko 620 W modules and 6 × Huawei SUN2000-50KTL-M3 inverters
  • 504.4 MWh/year expected yield, 1,484.6 kWh/kWp at 75.0% PR

253 kWp DC / 200 kWac grid-tied PV system for The Kiambu National Polytechnic workshops, modelled in PVsyst V8.1.3 for Gizaa Power Solutions.

01The problem
Workshop machinery drove high daytime demand charges, with no on-site generation to offset peak consumption.
02Engineering decision
Sized a 1.26 DC:AC array of 408 × 620 Wp monocrystalline modules across four Huawei 50 kWac inverters, then ran full PVsyst yield, shading and loss modelling to validate production and carbon savings.
03Verifiable outcome
  • 253 kWp DC / 200 kWac, DC:AC ratio 1.26
  • 363,090 kWh/year P50, 1,435 kWh/kWp/year specific production
  • 76.38% performance ratio

01The problem
The tuition block ran entirely on grid supply, with lighting, IT and HVAC loads coinciding with peak solar hours.
02Engineering decision
Configured 204 × 620 Wp monocrystalline modules on two Huawei 50 kWac inverters at a 1.26 DC:AC ratio, with PVsyst simulation of irradiance, losses and lifetime emissions balance.
03Verifiable outcome
  • 126 kWp DC / 100 kWac, DC:AC ratio 1.26
  • 185,717 kWh/year P50, 1,468 kWh/kWp/year specific production
  • 77.08% performance ratio, highest of the three sites
  • ≈1,378.6 tCO₂ lifetime net balance (≈1,844.2 tCO₂ replaced over 30 years)
